Distribution Coordinator

The Richmond Food Bank is looking for a dynamic, outgoing, caring, and compassionate individual to join our team as a Distribution Coordinator.

About the Richmond Food Bank Society

The Richmond Food Bank Society supports food security and nourishment needed to sustain health and well-being. Each week our volunteers offer an array of fresh produce and other grocery items to over 2,000 community individuals in need. We also support a School Meal Program to address hunger among students, Home Delivery Program for our most vulnerable, and information services to connect people in need with community resources.

The Richmond Food Bank is also a sharing hub for food and supplies to community meals, shelters, and other social service agencies that serve low-income and marginalized people in our city.

Job type: Full-time 35 hours/week Mon-Thurs

Salary: $46,000 annually plus benefits when applicable

Location: #100-5800 Cedarbridge Way, Richmond Food Bank

Job Summary

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Distribution Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the efficient and effective distribution of food during our on-site and off-site distributions. This includes managing inventory, planning distribution schedules, and ensuring compliance with food safety guidelines. The Distribution Coordinator will also supervise and train volunteers to assist with distribution activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and organize the distribution of food to clients, considering factors such as need, storage capacity, and transportation logistics.
  • Supervise volunteers to assist with food distribution activities. Ensure that volunteers are aware of and adhere to food safety guidelines.
  • Work with warehouse and distribution staff to ensure timely and efficient distribution of food
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure an adequate and equitable supply of food, including category selection and restocking.
  • Load/Unload and drive a 3-ton truck to and from our off-site depot locations.
  • Provide weekend coverage for program and/or distribution staff as needed.

  • Follow strict health and food safety guidelines.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Passion and support for food justice and a desire to contribute to a positive, caring, and supportive environment.

Qualifications:

  • Class 5 License with clean driving record
  • Previous experience in inventory management, distribution, logistics or a related field

Assets:

  • Forklift Operator (Class 1 License) Certified
  • Experience driving 3-ton vehicle or comparable
  • Usage of warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks and/or forklift
  • Knowledge of Windows Microsoft Office Suite and databases
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certified
  • Standard First Aid CPR-C & AED Certified

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to walk and stand for extended periods
  • Bending and lifting boxes up to 50lbs on a regular basis
  • Exposure to ambient temperatures and noisy conditions
