Letter from Our President

By Vivian in Thank You on November 14, 2023

Dear Neighbour,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to you on behalf of the Richmond Food Bank Society, a vital organization committed to addressing hunger in our community for the past forty years. Today, I want to thank you for your continued support and for being an active donor. Together with others, your support has made a profound difference in the lives of those who rely on our services for food and nourishment.

This year, the need for food assistance has risen by 56%, underlining the growing urgency of our mission. We are meeting the increased need through various initiatives such as the launch of our Community Food Pantry, piloting the “Seniors Only” distribution or adding new farm partners to strengthen our food recovery operations. And knowing that 25% of the people we serve are children, we also work closely with many elementary and secondary schools to provide nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and snacks to those students who would otherwise go hungry.

Hunger knows no season, and its impact can be felt year-round. As we approach the holiday season, it is more important than ever to come together and extend a helping hand to those less fortunate. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers work tirelessly to collect, sort, and distribute food to our neighbours in need.   However, we cannot continue to make a difference without the continued support of organizations and individuals like you.

We rely heavily on monetary donations to purchase our most needed food items in bulk and ensure that we have a consistent supply of staple food items that are part of a healthy diet. Monetary donations also help cover operational expenses that keep the lights on, the shelves stocked, and the doors open. No donation is too small, and we hope that we can count on you again to help us out.

Thank you for considering our request and for your continued support in the fight against hunger. Together, we can build a stronger and more compassionate community where no one goes hungry.

With warm regards and deep appreciation,

Carol Yan Lau

President-Richmond Food Bank Society
